Acuity Innovative Solutions Goes Full Throttle with HumanEyes .gif) Acuity, based in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, is a full-service promotional solutions company offering research and design, digital photography, digital asset management, printing and finishing (including prepress and sophisticated color management), online ordering, variable data printing, Print On Demand, and much more.
The business challenge: capture consumer attention for new Coca Cola product Acuity’s regular client, Coca Cola, was launching an energy drink branded as ‘Blue Demon’ and wanted a haunting 3D effect for its POP materials that would immediately capture consumer attention. The client wanted the energy drink can depicted in the artwork to pop right off the page, and also wanted the demon eyes looming in the background to have motion. The challenge was to balance these effects with the customer’s expectations, for example, achieving maximum depth of field without compromising the quality of the image.
The solution: front Lit 3D & Motion 5” x 7” decals for POP display Acuity produced 8,785 5” x 7” lenticular decals for placement on in-store shelving using HumanEyes software. Says Adam Buchholz, Acuity, Sales & Marketing, “This was a very challenging project because Coca-Cola wanted us to push the envelope to achieve noticeable depth in the piece and HumanEyes’ software helped us to achieve this. The powerful tools provided by HumanEyes allowed us to easily create high-quality 3D and motion effects for our customer.”
Printing was handled using 10-micron stochastic screening on the company’s 6-color Heidelberg CD102 press with in-line aqueous/UV coater running UV inks. The image was printed on 100 LPI 3D lens material; a white removable backer was adhered to the back side of the decal so it could be affixed to store shelving.
The results: Customer satisfaction and more
The client’s main objective was to achieve a high degree of depth of field, which the decal and 3D morph in the image. The end result achieved complete satisfaction. Acuity also entered this project in the 2007 IAPHC Best of Lenticular contest and received a Bronze award. Thanks to the IAPHC’s recognition, Acuity regularly cites it as an ‘award winner’. According to Buchholz, “Our ability to execute this lenticular printing project for such a high visibility piece reinforced our status as a high-quality printer that is willing to work closely with our clients to bring their ideas to life.”
