Achieving Distinctive Dimensions with HumanEyes

Hirt & Carter, headquartered in Durban, is South Africa’s leading supplier of systems-driven, integrated print solutions. The company has the widest range of print-centric technologies and capabilities available in South Africa.

The Business Challenge: how to add a distinctive dimension to advertising signage

Hirt & Carter has numerous customers for whom it produces signage ranging from retail store and shopping mall promotional materials to exhibitions signs and graphics. The challenge has been to work with customer supplied and innovative artwork and turn these into engaging and distinctive promotional materials employing state of the art techniques including 3D lenticular, multi-layer flips and more.

The Solution: 3D materials for retail and shopping malls, exhibition graphics and more

Hirt & Carter pioneered the first lenticular billboard in South Africa. This was posted in an issue of the "Buz News". It was a billboard printed and rigged by the company outside the Cell C head office in G.P. for the Cell C group. It entered this and other samples of its work in the IAPHC Best of Lenticular contest. Additional projects include exhibition graphics for Peroni Breweries, a 3D flip A3 soccer poster, another 3-layer flip ad for boots that grabbed a lot of attention in a shopping mall, and a mall ad featuring a personal music player for a key account, and using customer supplied artwork. All were produced on a Mimaki digital press, on 20 LPI 3D lenses.

The Results: enthusiastic customers and kudos galore

According to Clive Chetty, “we have achieved more than expected. Our customers have been pleased with the results and we continue to broaden the range of lenticular projects we handle. We received numerous awards, something that took us at a total surprise seeing that it was our first time entering such a competition.”

In addition all of the five of the entries Hirt & Carter submitted for the 2007 IAPHC Best of Lenticular contest demonstrated the company’s growing skill and innovation in the lenticular area, were recognized with Gold, Silver or Bronze awards.

Hirt & Carter also contributes its new found success with lenticular to the high level of support provided by HumanEyes. “HumanEyes was one of the best international companies to deal with in regard to software support and service. Lenticular printing for us was the first and was first in the country; HumanEyes support never let us down, they were always there to advice and support us from the application programme and producing prints even down to the level of helping to arrange the materials that was needed to produce our end results,” says Chetty.

“As for training, we had two people that came in from HumanEyes and both were very professional. Their understanding and experience on printing, software and colour was exceptional. I must thank HumanEyes for the professional manner that they conduct their business.”
